LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - NewsChannel 11 broke the story Thursday that Hockley County Sheriff David Kinney had been removed from office. Now we can give you Kinney's reaction.
A judge has temporarily removed Kinney as Sheriff and set a hearing for August 24th. A petition filed on behalf of the state of Texas by the Hockley County Attorney accuses Kinney of three things: incompetence, filing a false financial report, and making a false arrest.
Two of Kinney's deputies were indicted for drug related charges in July. Two more were recently indicted for unrelated incidents.
Kinney spoke out to the associated press Friday. He says "I'm not guilty of anything. I just don't understand none of this." And Kinney also says, "It's terrible. It's discredited me to no end, like I've done something wrong. I haven't."
