Good Samaritan Puts His Own Life at Risk

A good samaritan put his own life at risk to stop another wreck before anyone was hurt. It happened at about 4:30 p.m. on I-27, just north of New Deal.

According to DPS Trooper Jerry Johnson, 31-year-old Jeffrey Johnson of Lubbock (no relation) noticed an intoxicated driver swerving across several lanes. The driver, 54-year-old Nomi Paxton of Lubbock, then clipped a concrete pillar but did not stop. That's when Johnson used his own vehicle to force Paxton off the road. There were no injuries, but both cars suffered minor damage.

Paxton later admitted to Trooper Johnson that she was under the influence of alcohol and strong medication.
