State wants to hire Lubbock County for I-27 Recycling fire aftermath

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - State regulators want to hire Lubbock County to at least start the cleanup of a fire that started August 10th at I-27 Recycling.  Piles of wood and asphalt shingles have been smoldering ever since.

The state wants to pay Lubbock County to create a 100 foot earthen barrier all around the burning material.   Officials also want Lubbock County to stoke this fire so that it completely burns itself out.   And lastly, the state wants Lubbock County to bury the burned material.

The county already has bulldozers and other equipment at the scene.  County Commissioners will discuss the idea Friday.
