County approves process for getting new Sheriff, & fire cleanup

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The search for a new sheriff could not officially begin Friday, because County Commissioners say they don't have David Gutierrez resignation in writing. But the groundwork was laid out Friday afternoon.

Just as NewsChannel 11 was first to report, Commissioners will take applications and appoint an interim Sheriff to serve for a little less than a year-and-a-half.  Then in November 2010, voters will choose a sheriff for two years. Then in November 2012, voters will choose their sheriff for a normal four year term of office.

Also Friday, the state wanted to hire Lubbock County to start the cleanup of an August 10th fire at I-27 Recycling near the Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport.  And County Commissioners agreed to do that.
