Don Carter talks about his desire to become Lubbock Co. Sheriff

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Thursday night, we gave you the names of two men who are sure to apply for the position of Sheriff now that David Gutierrez has said he will step down on September 12th.

In this report we hear from Deputy Don Carter who says, "If they [County Commissioners] handle it by application, then I fully intend to make an application with them."

Carter also says he is "really looking forward to the opportunity to speak to them and certainly be able to explain some of the circumstances concerning what's been going on with myself."

Carter was previously a Major but was recently demoted by Sheriff Gutierrez.  Gutierrez says he hopes that did not damage Carter's reputation and he calls Carter "a man of integrity."

Carter also has experience as a Police Chief in Muleshoe.
