LCU Cross Country make top 5 in SAC preseason rankings

LUBBOCK, TX - The NAIA released their preseason conference rankings for men's and women's cross country and the Lubbock Christian University Chaparrals were ranked fifth in the Sooner Athletic Conference, while the Lady Chaparrals were ranked fourth.

On the men's side, Wayland Baptist University led the Sooner Athletic Conference rankings, followed by Oklahoma Baptist University, Oklahoma Christian University and Southern Nazarene University.  The Chaps, coached by Clyde Neff, were ranked ahead of Oklahoma City University, Northwestern Oklahoma State University and Mid-America Christian University. Lubbock Christian University finished the season fifth at the SAC Championships last season and Joshua Katam qualified for the NAIA National Championships.

LCU begins their running season September 3rd at the Midwestern State University Mustang Stampede.  Lubbock Christian University hosts the SAC Championships on November 6th at Chaparral Ridge Golf Course.  The Chaps cross country program consists of Eddie Cabellero, Cameron Clay, Wesley Fisher, Nathan Jenkins, Nathan Lee, Basil Melek, Izzie Miranda, Tommy Owen and Victor Korir.  

On the women's side, Oklahoma Baptist led the Sooner Athletic Conference rankings, followed by Southern Nazarene University and Wayland Baptist University.  The Lady Chaps, coached by Clyde Neff, were ranked ahead of Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Lubbock Christian University finished the season third at the SAC Championships last year with Lydia Kosgei and Brittani Sigle qualifying for the NAIA National Championships.
