LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD)- A panel of scientists advising President Obama believe now that nearly two million Americans could end up in the hospital this fall with the Swine Flu and 300,000 of them may need intensive care. The panel is predicting some hospitals could be overwhelmed.
The government's asked manufacturers to speed up production of antiviral medicines, since vaccine production is slower than expected. Meanwhile, officials are still waiting on results from clinical trials to tell manufacturers how much vaccine to put in each vial.
"We've asked them to go ahead and fill and finish based on what we know so far that we think is the right dosage," said Kathleen Sebelius, the Secretary of Health and Human Services. The correct dosage amounts will not be confirmed until at least mid-September, that's when we'll hear the first set of results from clinical trials that are now underway.
