LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The issue of alcohol in Lubbock has officially become a mess. The bottom line is a small group of people on the losing side of the May election are holding the process up, and these protestors have been completely enabled by the TABC. Need I remind anyone that alcohol sales passed by Lubbock County voters by an overwhelming margin back in May??
Now, instead of pulling the plug on these ridiculous protests, the TABC has now allowed alcohol sales to be delayed for months. Not only that, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission is now passing the buck to Lubbock County Judge Tom Head and judge who has yet to be named. Now these elected officials may have to rule on an issue already voted on by their constituents.
Consider this; Judge Head has had enough distractions lately. He was not elected to make decision like this. He was elected to run county business, including getting a wayward jail project back on track. If this decision does fall on his desk, I suggest he move quickly to uphold the election results.
Meanwhile, our state elected officials - Robert Duncan, Delwin Jones, and Carl Issett - should take a long hard look at the TABC and their processes. This agency should be overhauled so that it no longer has the power to needlessly delay and get in the way of the will of the people.
