The European Union wants to give UN weapons inspectors more time to do their work in Iraq -- if they ask for it.
The Greek foreign minister (George Papandreou) says how long they might get depends on the progress report the inspectors deliver to the Security Council Monday. He spoke to reporters at the World Economic Forum, an annual gathering of more than 2,000 political and business heavyweights in Switzerland.
While Secretary of State Colin Powell sought to build support against Baghdad inside the conference center, more than 1,500 people marched through the Alpine resort of Davos to protest an attack on Iraq.
Farther down the mountain, police used water cannons, tear gas, and rubber pellets to control a thousand more protesters. One person was slightly injured.Copyright 2003 Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
