Organizers of 'Bloody Holly Festival' to change its controversial name

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -The name of a music festival that caused some controversy among some family members of native son Buddy Holly will be changing.

The name of the music event was 'The Bloody Holly Festival' presented by the Lubbock rock radio station FMX. FMX program manager Wes Nessman says the name is changing because event posters must be changed. One of the headlining bands had to drop out of the festival, because their guitarist was diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs and legs.

"With this change in bands, we need to focus on the bands and not the names," said Nessman. "See originally, we had the name first and the bands second. This time, they had already come up with a name and once we lost this one act due to illness, we really need to focus on letting people know who the bands are and not worrying about these petty controversies."

The festival will be September 6th at the Lonestar Event Center.
