LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - With all the worry about swine flu, we shouldn't forget about the West Nile Virus. The Lubbock Health Department says that it is flying around Lubbock in infected mosquitoes.
Random samples of mosquitoes from different parts of Lubbock have revealed three mosquitoes from North and Southeast Lubbock tested positive for the West Nile virus, and according to the health department, that means there are probably others. Officials say it is not a big problem now and in fact, most people infected with West Nile never know it, but for some, it can bring flu like symptoms that linger for weeks, occasionally with serious complications.
Just to be safe, remember to wear insect repellant with deet, if you are outside at dusk which is when mosquitoes are more active.
