LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Cardinal's Sports Center on 50th was the starting line Thursday in a race to find a cure for breast cancer. The Komen Lubbock Area Race for the cure is the largest foot-race in Lubbock, attracting more than 7,000 walkers, runners and spectators last year. A portion of the sales at Cardinal's on Thursday was donated to the race, which is why Komen used them as the kick-off for this 15th Annual Race for the Cure.
"This helps fund the race, we have an auction that will also help fund the race and then we depend on the community to sign up and get registered. Lots of local businesses have been wonderful about sponsoring the race and 75 cents of every dollar raised for Susan G. Komen actually stays right here within the South Plains area," said Tamara Kirkpatrick, the race chair for 2009.
The Komen Race for the Cure is set for Saturday, October 3rd and you can register online, by mail or in person. For more information, (click here).
