LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Five are taken into custody after a street level drug operation is shut down.
Police confiscated cash, crack and drug paraphernalia Thursday afternoon. Authorities developed information that narcotics were being sold out of 1801 Apartment B on 66th street near Lowery Field. A search warrant obtained this afternoon gave SWAT and the LPD Narcotics Unit the go ahead to enter the apartment around 5:30 p.m. using a distraction device.
The bust drew a lot of attention from the neighborhood. Neighbor Tony Vasquez was startled when he heard what sounded like a firecracker. "It's crazy to see your next door neighbor going to jail for stuff like that," says Vasquez.
Lt. Roy Bassett with the Lubbock Police Department says no area in the city is totally immune to drugs. "This is what we could call a street level deal. From what we can tell appears on a regular basis that they've got walkup traffic and that's what we need people to be watching for," adds Lt. Bassett.
Lt. Bassett says if there are a lot of people coming to a house for two to three minutes that's what you need to keep an eye out for. On average LPD serves three to six warrants or even more a week. Police took four men and one woman into custody. The names and mug shots of those arrested were not available Thursday night.
