A Lubbock woman has been found guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The mother accused of torturing her two stepsons took the stand Friday, and the jury has found her guilty.

39-year-old Melissa Lively has been found guilty of two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. One count for each stepson she tortured.

Lively is accused of burning her teenage stepsons with a battery charger. Her husband, son and a family friend are also accused of the torture.

Officials learned of the situation when police found one of the boys, Joe, walking barefoot on I-27 after being chased out of his house by a family member. He was found emaciated, burned, beaten and cut by a razor.

Both boys, Danny and Joe, testified on Thursday as picture evidence was presented to the jury.

Danny and Joe were not allowed to eat. Pictures also revealed the garage closet that the boys were kept in and the foam beds that they were made to sleep on. The floor of the closet was concrete. The few clothes they had were also used as blankets and pillows.

There was also photo evidence that showed the battery charger that was used in the torturing of the boys and of the habanero peppers that they were forced to eat.

The jury is now in the sentencing phase and NewsChannel 11 is at the trial and will bring you the latest on kcbd.com and on the news at 5, 6, and 10.
