KFMX concert has new name after controversy

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - What was once called the "Bloody Holly" Music Festival, now has a new name after some controversy.

Earlier this week, organizers at KFMX radio announced "Bloody Holly" will no longer be the name, the new name of the Sunday concert is "Pedal to the Metal."

The name was changed one day after family of the late Buddy Holly raised objections, saying that it was disrespectful and inappropriate.

However, FMX program manager Wes Nessman says the name is changing because event posters must be changed. One of the headlining bands had to drop out of the festival, because their guitarist was diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs and legs.

Health concern has FMX changing name of the Bloody Holly Festival

Organizers for what was named the Bloody Holly Festival say that because of a health condition of one of the band members, they will re-work the marketing of the festival. That includes changing the name.
