LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A death investigation is underway after a local Mixed Martial Arts fighter was found dead in Muleshoe early Sunday morning on the steps of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church around 5:40 a.m.
The Texas Rangers and the Muleshoe Police Department are working jointly in the investigation. Police say the 28-year-old suffered at least one gunshot wound. Right now, investigators are awaiting autopsy results for an exact cause of death but they say they have not ruled out foul play.
Scott's death has taken the MMA world by surprise. "I didn't know how to react. I've known him for awhile, watched him grow, a lot of people want to focus on how great of a fighter he was, but he became much more he became a great man. I was pretty dumbfounded, shocked, in denial," said fellow MMA fighter Anselmo Martinez.
According to Scott's bio, he was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, California, but left the violent area about 6 years ago to visit family in Muleshoe. He said he dreamed about becoming a professional athlete, and in April of this year that became a reality when he received his MMA pro card.
