Texas Tech elects football captains

LUBBOCK, Texas - QB Taylor Potts, OG Brandon Carter, DE Ra'Jon Henley and CB Jamar Wall were elected team captains for the 2009 football season in a vote by their Texas Tech teammates.

Potts, the only non-senior among the quartet, enters his first season as the starting quarterback for the Red Raiders. The junior played in five games behind center last season and four games as a redshirt freshman. Carter, a preseason All-American in 2009, Henley and Wall have 70 starts between them, including Carter's 27 and Wall's 25.

The captains were announced following Sunday night's practice, which concluded with each saying a few words to the team. The Red Raiders' workout was brief as the team will have Monday off, before resuming game week preparations Tuesday.

Texas Tech opens the season against North Dakota on Saturday at Jones AT&T Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. For ticket information, contact the Texas Tech Athletic Ticket Office at (888) GO-BIG-12 or (806) 742-TECH. Tickets also are available on-line at www.texastech.com.
