LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD)- As we approach Labor Day weekend, United Blood Services is trying to build up its blood supply in the event of holiday emergencies.
Today on HealthWise at Five, United Blood Services Director Les Long says, "Don't just assume you can't donate, call us and find out because a lot of things have changed and gotten a lot easier to donate. I have had people who came and donated for the first time and then ask them how was that? And they'd say, you know if I had known it was no bigger deal than that I'd been donating all along,"
This week is the 13th Annual Labor of Love Blood Drive. Donors must be at least 16-years-old and in general good health. Each donor gets a t-shirt and will be registered to win a $500 shopping spree. To make is easier for you to donate blood in outlying areas, UBS is sending mobile units Tuesday to: Brownfield from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the First Christian Church, also at the Slaton Town Square from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. And as always, you can give blood in Lubbock at UBS, which is at 48th and University from 10 p.m. to 7 p.m. For the rest of this week's schedule and more information please clickhere.
