The I-Glide manual assist wheelchair is designed to provide an alternative to the strain manual wheelchair users suffer. The wheelchair is equipped with a set of small, lightweight motors that enable users to get around with less physical exertion.
When a wheelchair user pushes the chair's handrim, the motors powering the wheels are activated, generating enough force to propel the user. This wheelchair works much the same way as a manual wheelchair, but motors help propel it, reqiring less repetitive motion by the user.
The I-Glide manual assist wheelchair is expected to go on sale in March, selling for about $7,900. Health insurance should cover much of the cost.
