LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbock County Sheriff David Gutierrez handed his letter of resignation to the County Commissioners Tuesday.
Commissioners opened the job on the County website, and the posting will be open for at least five days. Those applying for the Sheriff position so far are former Major, Deputy Don Carter, Chief Deputy Kelly Rowe, Director of Animal Services Kevin Overstreet, and the most recent candidate, U.S. Marshal Ronnie O'Neal.

After 33 years of serving the citizens of Lubbock County, including 11 years as sheriff, David Gutierrez is stepping down, effective September 12th.
