LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - I'd like to take this time to personally welcome two new superintendents to the area.
Lubbock ISD has chosen Dr. Karin Garza from the Houston school district to lead the area's largest group of students, K through 12. Dr. Garza's experience promises to bring new ideas and great leadership to our children. With only her first full week of school completed, she is already promising benefits to taxpayers by keeping administrative costs low, and benefits to parents by getting their kids better prepared for college.
Down the road at the Frenship school district, David Vroonland is the new super in charge. Mr. Vroonland comes to us by way of Allen, TX where he served as Assistant Superintendent. His challenges will be unique from LISD's. He must find a way to get his arms around the tremendous growth of that district and balance that with expectations of the great education and athletic accomplishments students and parents are accustomed to.
Consider this; as a taxpayer, and a public school parent, I can tell you expectations are very high. We expect responsible management of the checks we write to the districts every year. And for that money, we also expect our kids to be well educated and ready for college and beyond.
So congratulations to Dr. Garza and Mr. Vroonland. We wish you great success, because we are all in this together.
