LUBBOCK TX (KCBD) - Texas Tech seems to have a commanding lead on getting new state money for Tier One status.
The university held a news conference Wednesday to announce how much money it had risen which would qualify for matching funds. The university raised more than $24 million, of which more than $21 million is eligible for the so called "TRIP" funds or Texas Research Initiative Program.
Tuesday the Dallas Morning news posted the amounts raised by six other schools and Texas Tech did better than all of them. "We feel like that what is happening is allowing us to be out front above anyone else," says Texas Tech Chancellor Kent Hance
Hance also says all seven universities looking to get "TRIP" funds did a great job, and it shows the need for more Tier One universities in Texas.
