Traffic light along busy stretch to start working normally

LUBBOCK TX (KCBD) - The traffic lights at Milwaukee Avenue and the entrance to Canyon Crossing have always just flashed yellow.  The city says starting Thursday they will cycle green, yellow, and red.  The official city statement is below.

The traffic signal at Milwaukee Avenue and Canyon West Development will be placed into Green-Yellow-Red operation this Thursday, September 3, 2009, at 10 a.m., weather permitting.  The signal will operate in Green-Yellow-Red mode between the hours of 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily.  During other hours, the signal will operate in flash mode.

The traffic signal has been operating in flash mode (yellow flash on Milwaukee Avenue and red flash on Canyon West Development) since installation in 2006, until the minimum vehicular warrants were met.  New traffic counts show that the volume of traffic is sufficient to justify that the signal operate in the alternate mode.
