Labor Day weekend also first weekend of hunting season

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - It's not just Labor Day weekend, it's also the first weekend of hunting season.

This weekend, many local hunters and stores are geared up for the first weekend of dove season. But, they remind people to practice safety first. "I want everybody to be real safe, hunt and drive very safe this weekend there's gonna be a lot of people on the roads and there'll be alot of people out hunting. So be real safe in what you do and come home to your family," says Mike Blackwell of Sharpshooters in Lubbock.

Dove season ends October 25th, and resumes the day after Christmas.

By the way, sportsmen across Texas are paying more for their ammo this year. With the cost of lead increasing, so are many types of ammo. The price increase is causing the practice of "reloading," or making your own ammunition to gain popularity.
