LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - If you were wondering what's all the smoke in central Lubbock Monday afternoon, it was an apartment fire.  The blaze was big enough to be seen on the NewsChannel 11 tower cam at 5600 Avenue A.

At about 2:45 Monday afternoon, a police officer noticed an abandoned apartment complex on fire at 6122 Avenue R.  One hour later firefighters officially reported their "assignment complete".

"It looks like a fence and some old mattresses that had caught on fire and spread to the back of the structure," says Kelly Morman LFD Battalion Chief.

There were no reports of injuries and the fire marshal's office is investigating.   Right now it is officially classified as a suspicious fire.  Most of the damage was to the outside, not the inside of the apartment complex, which is under renovation according to Morman.
