Local soldier dies in the line of duty in Afghanistan


LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A local soldier, supporting Operation Enduring Freedom, has died in the line of duty.

According to the Department of Defense, 25-year-old Staff Sgt. Michael C. Murphrey of Snyder, Texas died September 6th in Paktika province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, Fort Richardson, Alaska.
