South Plains man killed in combat in Afghanistan


SNYDER, TX (KCBD) - Late Tuesday afternoon, the Department of Defense confirms a South Plains man died in combat. Army Staff Sergeant Michael Murphrey died as a result of an IED or improvised explosive device. The IED went off in Paktika Province, Afghanistan.

He was a graduate of Snyder High School and most recently assigned to the 25th infantry in Alaska. Murphrey was 25 years old.
