LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce held a reception in honor of outgoing Sheriff David Gutierrez on Tuesday. NewsChannel 11 caught up with Gutierrez and asked what advice he has for whoever will be the next Lubbock County Sheriff.
"You never recognize or fully appreciate the true responsibilities as sheriff until you take that oath to defend and protect the constitution and the laws of this state. And the protection of the citizens of Lubbock County is a tremendous burden on a sheriff and I wish the new sheriff well, and that he seek guidance and counsel from God and surround himself with professional respectful people," says Gutierrez.
County Commissioners had been taking applications from people who might want to be appointed as sheriff. That job posting closed Tuesday at 5 p.m. No word yet on how many folks applied, but at least four of them made their intentions public. The commissioners will next discuss the appointment in executive session September 14th.
