LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - There are now five candidates for sheriff (and no longer four). Outgoing Sheriff David Gutierrez will soon take a job with the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles. The posting for that job closed Tuesday.

Candidates are Chief Deputy Kelly Rowe, Former Major Don Carter, Lubbock Animal Control Director Kevin Overstreet, U.S. Marshal Ronnie O'neal and Wednesday we learned Lubbock-Cooper Police Chief Jesse Pena also applied.

We will offer Pena equal time to introduce himself to our viewers just like the other candidates.   By the way, a sixth person expressed interest but it's not clear if that man's letter will be treated as an official application. We'll get back to you when county officials decide.
