LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Most people have heard Botox can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Now researchers at Allergan Inc., the makers of Botox, say their studies show the popular wrinkle eraser may also help treat migraines.
In this study, researchers injected two groups of migraine patients with Botox and a placebo. The group that was given Botox had nearly eight fewer headache days in a month, compared with those who got the placebo.
Allergan is expected to seek approval of Botox to treat chronic migraine headaches sometime this month. It is true that company makes Botox, so they have something to gain, but if it gets FDA approval for treating headaches, that may open the door to insurance coverage.
The results from the two studies will be presented this weekend at a meeting of the International Headache Society.
