Lady Chaps Attack Lady Jackets 3-0

LUBBOCK, TX - The No. 15 Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals volleyball team enjoyed their home opener, as they opened up the 2009 LCU Lady Chap Classic with a 3-0 win (25-16, 25-11, 25-17) Friday afternoon at Rip Griffin Center.

The Lady Chaps, who improved to 4-2 and ended a two-game losing skid with the win, dominated the play at the net.  They produced a .383 kill percentage in the match with 46 kills, while the Lady Jackets produced a negative (-.01) kill percentage with more errors (24) than kills (23).  A trio of attack errors by HPU led to an early lead for the Lady Chaps in the opening set, and once the Lady Chaps led 13-7, they never let the lead slip within six points.  LCU took the opening set 25-16.  LCU freshman Tori Velasquez served seven consecutive times to open the second set with a 7-0 lead, and Elissa Loynes top the mark later in the set with eight consecutive serves, as LCU rolled to a 25-11 lead in the second set.  The final set was tightly played until the Lady Chaps went on a 8-2 run when leading 14-10 to take a commanding 22-12 lead.  HPU attempted a late rally, but the Lady Chaps sealed the match with a 25-17 set victory.

Freshman Bailey Jones was impressive in her LCU home debut, posting her second career double-double with 15 kills and 10 assists. Six of Jones' kills came in the second set. Loynes collected 12 kills on 18 opportunities for a .667 kill percentage.  Jordan Goings had a pair of aces to go along with 40 assists for the Lady Chaps.

LCU completes their opening day of the Lady Chap Classic at 7 p.m., as they face Texas Wesleyan University inside Rip Griffin Center.
