Potts Named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech junior quarterback Taylor Potts (Abilene, Texas) was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Monday as announced by the Big 12 Conference. Potts is the first player of the week honoree for the Red Raiders this season.

Potts earned the first Big 12 Player of the Week accolade of his career following a seven-touchdown performance in Tech's 55-10 victory over the visiting Rice Owls. He finished his career night 36-of-57 for 456 yards. His seven touchdown passes fell one short of the school and Big 12 record held by former Red Raider B.J. Symons in 2003.

The Big 12 also named defensive end Max Onyegbule (Kansas) and defensive tackle Lamarr Houston (Texas) as Co-Defensive Players of the Week. Oklahoma State wide receiver and kick returner Dez Bryant was named Special Teams Player of the Week.

Texas Tech (2-0) opens conference play this weekend at No. 2 Texas (2-0) at 7 p.m. CT from Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin. ABC will carry the game live. The Red Raiders' next home date is Oct. 3 against New Mexico.
