A City of Lubbock source tells NewsChannel 11 that Jim Gilbreath wants to represent District 6 in the City Council. Gilbreath is currently the Campaign Chairman of Lubbock's United Way.
Cooke resigned last Friday, citing family matters as his reason. He served District 6 for 10 1/2 years. He also served as Mayor Pro-Tem. Cooke is also Chairman and President of the West Texas Municipal Power Agency, which supplies LP&L with power.
The City Council will now call a special election so voters can pick a replacement.
