LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Home Plate Diner at 5812 34th Street is this week's only low performer.

  • Sliced tomatoes were not 41 degrees or below.
  • Employees' uncovered drinks were above food contact surfaces.
  • Employees handled hamburger buns and french fries without gloves.
  • Toxic items were above food contact areas.
  • There was no thermometer in a cooler.
  • A knife was not stored properly.

The manager says everything was corrected during the inspection. He says the restaurant is under new management and is currently re-training employees to ensure food safety and customers satisfaction.

Here is a complete list of the restaurants and their violations for the week ending on 9/17/09.

Now to this week's school report card.

  • At Jackson Elementary inspectors found a live cockroach in a flour container and a dead one on top of a flour container in dry storage area. A pest control company was called.
  • At Hodges Elementary the blade on a meat slicer was rusty.
  • Maedgen Elementary had a dirty can opener.
  • At Overton Elementary a knife was found with a broken tip.
  • And at Harwell Elementary grated cheese was expired.

Now we head to the top of the class.

Ballenger Headstart had a Grade A inspection as well as Coronado High School's Kitchen. 

Two elementary schools aced their tests: Haynes Elementary and Ramirez Elementary.

Evans Middle School and Hutchison Middle School also received an A+ for their perfect scores.
