LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Texas Tech Red Raiders packed their bags and hit the road for the first time this season, facing one of their biggest rivals in the Big 12, the Texas Longhorns Saturday night.
They left behind a quiet Lubbock, but for those that weren't able to make the road trip, Lubbock sports bars planned for a packed house. "Hopefully we'll have a big crowd; we figure it's going to be about half and half, UT, Tech, hopefully Tech comes out on top," Buffalo Wild Wings Manager Chris Mendez said.
"We've got some extra staff on hand, and we are preparing a little bit more of our food that is prepared before our service comes in," Cujo's General Manager Dwayne Lucas said.
With Michael Crabtree's unforgettable touchdown still fresh on the Longhorn's minds', Tech needs a lot of support behind them whether it's in Longhorn territory or right here in Red Raider Country. "Considering how we won last year with one second left, I think everyone's talking about Texas is out for revenge and nobody is given Tech much of a chance," Mendez said.
Many sports bars around town hope to make their customers feel like they are at the game live. "We'll play the fight song when Tech scores or does something good, trying to rally up the crowd a little bit, just like being at the game," Lucas said.
