TABC issues 86 licenses & permits in Lubbock County

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - United Supermarket locations and several more expect to receive their packaged alcohol licenses Wednesday morning, but representatives from United tell NewsChannel they don't expect to start stocking until Thursday.

Eddie Owens with United Supermarkets says that all stores are ready to go.  Lubbock's 9 United Supermarkets are just some of the 86 new locations in Lubbock County that the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission issued licenses and permits to. Stores are supposed to get a 'letter of authority' starting at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

A 'letter of authority' allows them to start buying and selling alcohol. Owens says shelves are ready to be filled. "Operationally we've been ready for a long time to be honest with you, because we had to bring in new coolers and that sort of thing, so those have been in place for quite a long time.  We had stocked those new shelves with other product until now, as you can see behind me, most of those shelves have been cleared off, ready for new product," Owens said.

Owens says United will begin stocking locations Thursday morning.  Here's a look at the current schedule for Beer sales:

Thursday, 6 a.m. delivery:

  • Amigos, North University
  • 50th & Ave. Q
  • Market Street, 50th & Indiana
  • 4th & Slide

Thursday 11 a.m. delivery:

  • 82nd & Boston

Friday, 6 a.m. delivery:

  • Parkway & Zenith
  • 82nd & Frankford
  • Market Street, 98th & Quaker
  • 29th Dr. & Marsha Sharp Freeway

Owens tells us that wine stocking will follow a similar patter, but the exact schedule hasn't been determined yet.  "We have a couple of beer distributors and actually there are no wine distributors in Lubbock, so all of that product is actually moved from out of town.  There's at least four different distributors we use for wine product," Owens said.

United is not alone. We're also in touch with 7-Eleven stores. Ryan Suttles there told us earlier that they hope to stock shelves quickly after they receive their license in hand. We'll let you know when they and other stores start sales as well.
