Co-worker charged with murder in Merimon/Harrelson case

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - An arrest has been made in the Peggy Merimon and Kay Harrelson case.

Mickey Patterson was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Oregon. He is charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of Merimon and Harrelson.

The two women went missing in August of 2006 from their jobs at the Lubbock State School. Harrelson's body was found 11 days later southwest of Shallowater.

Merimon remains missing.

Patterson is being held on two (2) $5 million bonds on each count of murder. He could be brought back to Lubbock as soon as 10 days if he doesn't fight extradition.

In a civil lawsuit filed last year, family members claimed Patterson lured the women from the State School during their lunch hour, killed them, and hid their bodies.

NewsChannel 11 has also learned that Patterson was indicted 8 days ago by a Lubbock Grand Jury in a sealed indictment.

NewsChannel 11 is following this story and will bring you the latest information as soon as it becomes available.
