LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - In downtown Lubbock Thursday morning, cooks were busy preparing their best barbeque. They'll find out who's number one Thursday afternoon during judging for the 8th Annual Hub City Barbeque Cook-Off.
Cooks started setting up Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., and 78 teams signed up this year. The barbeque started in 2002 with only 12 teams. Last year almost 90 teams participated and more than 6,000 people showed up to eat.
Every team receives a brisket and rack of ribs. They compete in brisket, rib, and other meat categories. This year, teams can also participate in a new fajita contest.
Gates open at 5:00 p.m. Thursday at Broadway and Avenue L. Events are scheduled to last until 9:00 p.m. Featured entertainment this year is the Electric Gypsies.
If you don't already have tickets, they're $20.00 at the gate. Kids five and under get in for free.
