City says 'everything functioning properly' after sewage line spill

Posted:

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The city says a section of the sewer line in the 900 block of East 14th Street collapsed because of age and hydrogen sulfide corrosion. More than 100 thousand gallons of sewer water was leaked into the nearby Canyon Lakes.

City of Lubbock Water Utilities Director Aubrey Spear says the TCEQ and the City of Lubbock worked together trying to ensure there was no damage to the environment. "We're actually sampling and they're sampling the Canyon Lakes area near where the discharge was to make sure there was no fish killed, because sewage will deplete the oxygen in the water," says Spear.
