First liquor store opens in Lubbock city limits

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - More history is made in the transition of Lubbock from a dry to wet county.

Rick's Place, located at 82nd and Iola, is now the first store, since the May 9th election, to sell liquor inside the city limits.

Owner Rick Claybrook says he is happy to be able to provide a service to patrons, and he is proud to be the first. "We got our store ready, went through the process... we just happened to be the one to get our product first," said Claybrook. "We're excited about it."

Rick's Place, just like any other liquor store to open in Lubbock, will stop selling hard liquor at 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday. And in accordance with state law, they will not sell any at all on Sunday.

Packaged alcohol on store shelves, happy customers
People are buying packaged alcohol inside city limits for the first time in Lubbock history. The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission issued 86 licenses and permits for stores across the city Wednesday and many wasted no time stocking their shelves.
