SUV catches fire outside of home in south Lubbock

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A family of four is staying elsewhere after a fire destroyed their vehicles and damaged their home in south Lubbock.

An SUV caught fire outside the home in the 1600 block of 71st Street around 11:50 Monday night. The fire destroyed the carport and two other vehicles.

Pete Pena says his family was inside sleeping when the fire began. "I think one of the wires in my wife Expedition caught on fire and then all of a sudden, the fire caught... rapidly, man. Not even 10, 5 minutes. Then the whole house caught on fire."

The flames spread into the garage and damaged the attic. There were no reports of injuries.

The fire is still under investigation, and there is no word on what caused it.
