Experts label anti-energy drinks as possible gateway drug

By Kristin Beerman | email

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Major stores in Lubbock have stopped selling anti-energy drinks, but your kids might get them elsewhere. They claim to provide extreme relaxation using natural products like melatonin, which is linked to sleep hormones.

Two popular brands are called "Drank" and "Sippin Syrup" and some experts say parents should know these drinks are strikingly similar to a form of recreational drug use, which combines cough syrup with codeine and soda, making kids feel drunk.

Health experts believe these anti-energy drinks could be a gateway to illegal drugs.
