The food selection at the Panhandle South Plains Fair is always an attraction for the young and the young at heart, but an unexpected crowd shows up for none other than lunch. The fair grounds are busy with business suits and ties at lunch time. And it's the perfect time to go if it's the food that you crave, being that there is free admission and parking before 1 p.m.
Scott Crane who showed up for lunch Tuesday asks rhetorically, "Why did I come for my lunch break?" He answers, "Because every year I like to come to the fair because they have great food."
The food vendors open at 11 a.m. and keep cooking until either the food is gone or its time to lock up the gates. Besides, where else can you get a fried Snickers Candy Bar or a baked sweet potato for lunch? There's also battered fried butter and even a little something called fried Coke.
The 2009 Panhandle South Plains Fair begins Friday, September 25th and goes thru October 3rd and there is lots to see and do this year.
