Motorcycle rider critically injured after pick-up truck's lane change

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Wednesday evening, Larry Hegood, 52, lost control of his motorcycle after the driver of a pickup moved over into the Hegood's lane.

This was about 7 p.m. on Loop 289 near Marsha Sharp Freeway. Police say the pickup driver did not see the motorcycle in a blind spot. The driver and the passenger of the pickup did not sustain any injures, but the motorcyclist was rushed to University Medical Center.

Police say he did not appear to have a helemt on. "A driver of the pick-up truck attempted a lane change to move over to this exit ramp that's right behind us [5600 West Loop 289] and didn't see the motorcyclist and collided with that motorcyclist forcing him to lay his bike down into a skid," said Sgt. Kevin Henley.

Police are still investigating. No word as of Wednesday night on any possible traffic citations.
