LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - This weekend more than 7,000 people are signed up to participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. The event at the Civic Center looks more like a huge festival, but it's also an important fundraiser for breast cancer research. You can still register at 6:30 on the morning of the race, which starts at 8:30. Then, Saturday afternoon red raider fans can show their support for the Koman cause by wearing pink to the game. The slogan for that effort is "Pack the Jones in Pink" and you can get your free pink Red Raider t-shirts from noon to 2:00 p.m. before the game.
"It does send the message that there is a lot of people in this community that care about breast cancer awareness. I think that is going to be phenomenal, but pink is just a lighter shade of red anyway," said Alan Berger, president of the Double T Zone. Several area spirit stores will sell pink Texas Tech shirts for the event. The Double T Zone says it will donate all profits from the pink shirt sales to breast cancer awareness.
