Food for Thought Report 10.1

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - From Mexican favorites and Italian dishes to Thai cuisine, there's a variety to choose from in this week's menu. And out of the nine restaurants that make up this week's Food for Thought list, only one is at the bottom.

Anna's Mexican Restaurant at 6923 Indiana Ave. is our first stop at the top.

Next we head Durango's Restaurant at 1602 Main. This downtown favorite is back on top after their flawless health inspection.

And to spice things up a bit we drop by Picantes at 3814 34th. They're a repeat top performer.

Speaking of repeats, our next three stops each served up a slice of perfection:

  • Double Dave's at 6023 82nd Street
  • Domino's Pizza at 5815 82nd
  • Little Caesar's at 7301 University

Have it your way at our next top performer as Burger King at 4202 82nd grills up a perfect score.

And wrapping up our list of top performers, they do more right than just chicken, Kentucky Fried Chicken at 7823 Slide serves a repeat performance.

Here is a complete list of the schools and their violations for the week ending on 10/1/09.

Now to this week's only low performer...

Thai Thai at 5018 50th had six critical violations.

  • Multiple cold foods were above the safe temperature of 41 degrees.
  • Rice at the wrong temperature was thrown out.
  • A plastic container was in a hand sink.
  • Numerous items had the wrong expiration date.
  • Toxic items were near food.
  • A can opener was dirty.

Management says all violations were corrected while the inspector was there. The report shows that as well.

Health inspectors checked out the cleanliness of ten schools this week. Seven elementary schools raked in the perfect score, including:

  • Arnett Elementary
  • Bozeman Elementary
  • Martin Elementary
  • Parkway Elementary
  • Roy Roberts Elementary
  • Wheelock Elementary
  • Wolffarth Elementary

Monterery High School gets a gold star for acing their inspection. And The School for Young Women Leaders gets an A+ as well.

Alderson Academy was the only school with violations.

  • Cold foods were thrown out because they were above 41 degrees.
  • Kitchen utensils were dirty.

The violations have been corrected.
