LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - It pays to keep workers healthy, even if employers have to foot the bill to get them there. That recommendation comes from the American Heart Association, which says it's proven that exercise reduces the risk for heart disease and cancer. These are costly diseases for employers who pay for health insurance.
The AHA says, that for every dollar companies spend on workplace health and wellness program, the company can save three to 15 dollars in reduced health care costs. They're not just talking about exercise; this also includes wellness programs that help deal with stress and weight management. Programs that also help employees maintain healthy snacking in the cafeteria and support for smokers who want to quit and organizing walking groups among employees.
