LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbock is only a 40 minute drive from the self-proclaimed pumpkin capital of the world. So it seems a little ironic that local stores would struggle with a pumpkin shortage, but that's exactly what's going on.
The 2008 pumpkin crop nationwide led to a shortage of canned pumpkin puree. United Supermarkets says, "We have placed our orders to Libby and Food Club (our private label brand), but we are on allocation due to a shortage."
The 2009 pumpkin crop is expected to fix the problem.

Annual pumpkin patch now open
Proceeds from the pumpkin sales benefit several church outreach programs such as Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels and Family Promise.
