LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - On August 6th, 2006, two Lubbock women left work for lunch and were never heard from again.
For three years, the families of Kay Harrelson and Peggy Merimon have had to live with the idea that whoever is responsible for what happened to them may never be held accountable.
Three weeks ago everything changed. A former co-worker of the two women, Mickey Patterson, was arrested for their murders and is now sitting in the Lubbock County Jail awaiting trial.
Consider this; it is not yet clear what new evidence allowed authorities to charge Patterson with murdering these women. But one thing is clear - the Lubbock County District Attorney never gave up on this case, and now the system can finally go to work for these women. Their families believe Patterson killed Kay and Peggy and now, thanks to his persistence, D.A. Matt Powell will get a chance to prove it in court.
