LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Driving with the top down is a lot of fun, but it could be damaging your hearing. Researchers measured the noise levels that convertible drivers are exposed to at speeds of over 50 miles per hour. They found these drivers are consistently exposed to decibel levels from 88 to 99. Repeated exposure to sounds over 85 decibels is known to cause permanent hearing loss.
If you must keep the top down, researchers say you can still drop the decibel levels by keeping the car windows up.
